ইঁদুর মারার ফাঁদ পাতা রয়েছে।
সে খুবই ভয় পেল।
ফাঁদটি অকেজো করার জন্য সে
ওই বাড়িতে থাকা মুরগির সাহায্য
চাইল। মুরগি ঘটনা শুনে জবাব
দিল-
" " ফাঁদটি
আমার কোন ক্ষতি করতে
পারবেনা। অতএব আমি এখানে
কোন সাহায্য করতে পারবনা " " . .

কাছ থেকে এই উত্তর
শুনে ইঁদুর খুব দুঃখিত হল
এবং ছাগলের কাছে গিয়ে সাহায্য
চাইল। ছাগল ফাঁদের কথা
শুনে বলল-
" " ওই
ফাঁদ বড়দের জন্য নয়। আমি
এখানে তোমাকে কোন সাহায্য করতে
পারবনা " " .

ছাগলের কাছ থেকে একই
উত্তর শুনে দুঃখিত হয়ে
গরুর কাছে এলো। সব
কথা শুনে গরু বলল-
" " ইদুরের
ফাঁদ আমার মত বড়
প্রাণীর কোন ক্ষতিই করতে
পারবেনা। যা আমার কোন
ক্ষতি করতে পারবেনা- তাতে
আমি সাহায্য করতে পারবনা " " . .

শেষ পর্যন্ত নিরাশ হয়ে তার ঘরে
ফিরে এলো। রাতের বেলা
বাড়ির কর্ত্রী অন্ধকারের ভিতর বুঝতে পারলেন
যে ফাঁদে কিছু একটা ধরা
পরেছে। অন্ধকারে ফাঁদের কাছে হাত দিতেই
উনি হাতে কামড় খেলেন
এবং দেখলেন ফাঁদে ইঁদুরের বদলে সাপ ধরা
পরেছে . .

চিৎকারে কর্তার ঘুম ভাঙল। তাড়াতাড়ি
ডাক্তার ডাকা হল। চিকিৎসা
শুরু হয়ে গেল। কিন্তু
অবস্থা মোটেই ভালো না। পথ্য
হিসেবে ডাক্তার মুরগির সূপ খাওয়াতে বল্লেন।
সুপের জন্য কর্তা মুরগিকে
জবাই করে দিলেন। অবস্থা
আস্তে আস্তে আরও খারাপ হতে
লাগলো। দূরদূরান্ত থেকে আরও অনেকে
আত্মীয় স্বজন আসতে লাগলো। বাধ্য
হয়ে কর্তা ছাগলকে জবাই করলেন তাদের
আপ্যায়ন করার জন্য . .

ভালো চিকিৎসার জন্য অনেক টাকার
দরকার হতে লাগলো। অবশেষে
বাড়ির কর্তা তাদের গরুটিকে কসাইখানায় বিক্রি করে দিল। একসময়
বাড়ির কর্ত্রী সুস্থ হয়ে উঠল। আর
এই সমস্ত কিছু ইঁদুরটি তার
ছোট্ট ঘর থেকে পর্যবেক্ষণ
করল . .
